davelowes
Can anyone offer any advice on removing the rear hubs on a 1500 Spitfire. I need to change the bearings. I have even snapped my puller trying to remove them. :(
Richard B
YOu need the proper puller. Either buy one eBay or TSSC, or borrow one from a Club member.Whereabouts are you? If you are near Guildford bring them over and I'll strip them. One of these;http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TRIUMPH-.....;hash=item4aabce2df3ps If you have tried too hard with the incorrect tool you may have bent the flanges :'(
davelowes
Thanks, thought that may be the case. Unfortunately I'm in Cardiff but thanks very much for the offer. will try and get hold of the tool.
molten
Haynes manual says the hubs are 'exceptionally tight'. Your'e not kidding. I had to get mine on hydraulic pull machine with gas torch untill glowing virtually and still took 17 tonnes ??) of force for each hub!!!
heraldcoupe
Be aware that the inner bearing races run directly on the driveshaft. If they have become noisy, it's almost certain that the surface of the shaft has been damaged. This is when it gets expensive I'm afraid,Cheers,Bill.
