lnpab17
I've been replacing grease & oil plugs with nipples on my recently aquired 13/60. The osr plug wont budge though. I've tried "Plus Gas", a small blow torch & belting an impact driver, all to no avail. An 11mm mini socket is a nice tight fit, but eventually my quarter to 3 eighths adapter lost it's square drive!!I don't really want to drill it out. The head is still intact. Although the 11mm small socket fits well, a decent half inch drive 11mm socket is loose & will probably round off the head. AF socket & ring spanners are also loose. I don't think that I am the first person to try & remove it!Any wise sages or experianced owners have any advise? Thanks for your help. This forum is a great resource. Following previous advise, my tonneau now fits!!!!Cheers, Peter.
heraldcoupe
A dab of weld on the end of the plug will work wonders, even better if you weld a nut onto it,Cheers,Bill.
lnpab17
Thanks Bill,I'm not a profficient welder, but I do have a very old MIG. Would it need to be a gas torch for the heating, or would a splat from the Mig do the job? Thanks, Peter.By the way, over a period of hours in the sun, I managed to get all but 2 studs fastened on the tonneau!Cheers, Peter. heraldcoupe
MIG is better, it will keep the heat localised on the plug. A gas torch is more likely to damage the bearing or seals as it will heat the whole trunnion assembly,Cheers,Bill.
