195/70/14 WILL GIVE THE CLOSEST ROLLING CIRCUMFERENCE TO ORIGINAL, AND THEREFORE THE LEAST SPEEDO INACCURACY ON A 2500S, ASSUMING THAT THE ORIGINAL 175 TYRE WAS AN 80 SERIES.

A 185/70/14 WILL LOWER THE GEARING BY APPROX. 5% WHEN NEW AND 8% WHEN WORN TO JUST ABOVE LEGAL, AND AFFECT THE SPEEDO AND FUEL CONSUMPTION.

I HAVE 195/70/14s ON MY S TOO AND CAN ECHO WHAT ALAN SAYS ABOUT THEM.

Sorry, recalculated and the difference in gearing would be approx. 4% when new and closer to 6% when worn. Not a big amount really. Might be worth shopping around for tyre prices though, sometimes a slightly larger tyre is cheaper due to it being a more popular fitment. How much are 185/14s if you could find them?

Still quite a big choice in 185R14 (= 185/80-R14). Blackcircles list 15 starting at £29 -- must be a popular size for van tyres (quite a few LT, 8-ply etc in the Blackcircles list)

175R13 (= 175/80-R13) seems to be getting difficult to find now for those still running them on steel rims. Blackcircles only list three.

Black minlighs would spoilt it..................need some shiney bits on there.

I think Revvies are better, but S alloys (when polished!!) look great.

Go with the Stag/S alloys............I think I can scrape a set together than need a quick tickle on the old polisher...............I may even be persuaded to do them for you.................

Alternatively keep an eye out for joannec3061 on eBay - a guy in Stoke-on-Trent who referbs alloys on the side.  Picked a set up from him a couple of weeks back and has done a reasonable job of it.  Basically £200 for 4 wheels sans tyres (I already had some lines up).

Aw krap  :D Somebody -- please protect me from myself and go buy them quick before I succumb  ::)

I really do not need shiny alloy wheels on Saloon with rusting sills, rusting door bottoms, a rusting rear valance and a rusting nose cone ;D ;D  ;D

Well done Bill - you got those wheels!  They will look great.

Here's a handy link: http://www.mintylamb.co.uk/gearspeed/

Looks like your 185/65/14s will be pretty close to the original wheel diameter on your TC.  I've heard good things about Toyo Proxies too.

Probably not the ones you're of thinking of Glenn  :)

Ian at Chic Doig's produced a set of second-hand chrome Wellers taken off a Stag when I was over there on Tuesday and at the price I was offered them I couldn't refuse  ;)

I've always thought Slots and Minilites look a bit naff with the Mk2 (albeit Minilites look great on the Mk 1) and wasn't sure about the Wellers but now that they're on the car I like them a lot.

I'll post a pic tomorrow.

The 2500 Tc i'm buying has 13 inch steel rims. Is that a standard fitment?
I am wondering whether to go for stag alloys to replace themwhich i believe are 14 inch.
If the new alloys have 175/80 section tyres will they

1 Fit the car without modification
2Mess up the speedo/increase or decrease revs and therefore affect fuel consumption.
3 Mess up gearing so that car is under or over geared.
