iggy
hi what size and type thread does the water pump housing have in it where the heater flow pipe attaches thanks thinking of screwing a tee piece in for my fan switch
nang
Normally 3/8" NPT I think.Tony.
DJB_Harvey
I think it's UNF that's why the union / blank there has a fibre washer to seal it .
piman
Hello Iggy, it is a pipe thread, I don't know if NPT and BSP share common diameters and thread pitch, but as far as I can tell it matches BSP at 19 tpi and 0.650" ish diameter. It can't be UNF at that diameter and mine does not have a fibre washer, it seals purely on the taper. DJB, I think someone has been using a belts and braces approach (No washer shown in the parts book either).Alec
nang
Alec,BSP and NPT are almost the same. BSP 19 tpi, NPT 18 tpi. with diameters almost the same. Tony.
iggy
thanks for your replies every one, I was hoping it would be 3/8 bsp as that is the thread on my fan switch and I have some 3/8 bsp tees and fittings in my garage il have to unscrew the thread from the pump houseing and check it :)
piman
Hello Tony,Hardly the same when you try and fit one into the port of another? I'll double check tomorrow but it certainly looked like 19 tpi.Iggy, why don't you try a BSP fitting to see if it does fit properly?Alec
DJB_Harvey
It's 5/8 UNF ... Not BSP or anything else and originally it always had a fibre washer . Only PI models had this blanked off .
piman
Hello DJB Harvey, 5/8" is 0.625" diameter, the one I removed yesterday is tapered and just over 0.650" at it's largest diameter? Also I used Whitworth spanners to unscrew it so typical of a pipe fitting.Alec
Richard B
Do you mean this part? http://www.chriswitor.com/proddetail.php?prod=101343SS&cat=244Triumph water and fuel connectors, thats why I bought a set of Whitworth spanners. 8)
piman
Hello Richard, yes that's the item I'm talking about.Alec
Richard B
I think Dave was talking about the takeoff for the inlet manifold pipe, this is the one that is blanked off on PI's. (Not fitted as no need to heat the inlets, and a cold charge is always better for engines)Taper on one side and BSP on the other.I know the sump plugs are 3/8"NTP see if one of those fits. I would expect Triumph to have kept the same thread for the waterpump housing adapter.
piman
Hello all, although I may have been looking at the wrong area, I can confirm that the heater pipe adapter that goes to the rear of the water pump housing is 3/8" BSP, Sorry for the confusion.Alec
iggy
the adaptor in the picture on chris witors site is for the return pipe from the heater under the exhaust manifold, I was looking to fit the fan switch in the flow outlet from the pump housing that connects to the inlet manifold
