Beans Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I am soon to make a decision to what engine block I am going to use for the new Sprint engine for 't KrengI have a few engines to choose from, and I was wandering if there are known quality differences between the various castings over the years and, if any, which one is best? The two best blocks are;• An original Sprint block, engine number VA 21979 HE (tempted because the bores and Mahle pistons look very good)• Low mileage late US spec TR7 Block, engine number CK 1056 UC.So my main question is, are there any known quality issues with these various engine blocks,or are there no real differences and is it just a matter to choose the best of these two?
jeroensprint Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 A lot. Waterholes in the block not good and cylinders bored too deep are the most common problems. They occur with all castings and make no difference in 1850, tr7 or sprint. Take a good look or find something else to start with.Jeroen
