hyperhale Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 I need to replace the head gasket on my mk4 spitfire and assumed all were the same quality but this does not appear to be the case.Rimmers stock the gasket a standard gasket but list a Payen equivalent at around twice the cost and I see online reference to Payen selling a thicker gasket and many references to their quality. Does anyone have a view on them and their reliabilty vs cheaper gaskets and is a thicker gasket option better ? Quote
Spider Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 I believe Andy Thompson has had issues with a Payen head gasket recently.http://triumphwestoz.blogspot.co.uk/you will have to scroll down the blog a fair way to get to the article.I have no personal experience and Andy's problems are the first I have heard of but then again, I have not been looking. Steve P Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Unless your running a high compression engine or revving the jacobs off of it i wouldn`t bother,a standard one will do.I dont think new Payen is the same as old Payen as with lots of other parts.S Quote
Velocita Rosso Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Payen every time, never had any issues with the quality Quote
Tim Bancroft Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Totally agree with VR.Payen every time for me. Quote
GT6DavidMK1 Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I agree Payen every time ;), seen so many cheap/repro head gaskets give up :-/ Quote
Deleted User Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I have changed many head gaskets on my old 1300, the only gasket I would use is Payen. Choose cheap buy twice! well with this item!!Rob Quote
partsaver Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 I only use Payen gaskets and never had a problem, there are cheaper places to buy than Rimmers. Quote
hyperhale Posted January 8, 2015 Author Posted January 8, 2015 Thanks for all the responses, went with Payen and all looking good 😊 Quote
