Exhaust Gasket

Has anyone got any advise on how to get the exhaust to seal to the head?  I replaced my GT6 engine with a 2.5 and can't get the new one to seal to the exhaust manifold.  I have checked the manifold face and made sure it is clean but it still blows mainly on cylinder 1.

Any ideas?  Can you use gasket goo on exhausts?

I presume you mean the exhaust manifold seating against the head? If so check the manifold isn't cracked. That happened on my Herald and it took me ages to find the problem, in fact I only found it after re-fitting it for umpteenth time and the cracked bit finally fell off!

Yeah that's right, the manifold to the head.  Don'e really understand why it doesn't seal as both faces look good.

At a guess the face of the manifold is not true. Check it with a straight edge?
