13/60 Heater Gasket

Does anyone know where I can get the OBLONG shaped gasket that fits on the bottom of the Heater Casing (Smiths Type) where it fits to the Bulkhead Shelf.

It's not listed anywhere as a new part, but there is a possibility that one intended for an MG may have the same footprint. The Smiths heaters were built to standard designs, with many pressings common between different vehicles, though the finished heater would be different enough not to be a straight swap.

Failing that, usual approach is to use some nominally square sectioned sponge rubber gasket. I use Herald hood header seal because it's something I have readily available, something a little smaller in section would probably do the job just as well, or better,

Cheers,
Bill.

I'm surprised these were never remanufactured; I always look for good secondhand ones at auto jumbles as there's nothing else. The circular ones for the fan intake are still available but the foam never looks particularly waterproof. I must try the MG ones once I can find the correct part.

Thanks to Bill at Rarebits and to Paudman for your replies.

The MG Midget seal looks the same on the parts diagram so will make a phone call and ask the question.

Will let you know what I find out.

Thanks again.

Looked up the Heater to bottom bulkhead gasket on the MG site and it looks identical but in practice the MG Midget gasket is larger and considerably thicker.Well it was worth a try.
