If you've measured compression and it's good then the gasket's probably fine. I don't think it's that common to have problems on the 1200 but the 1300/1500 engines have two different types of gasket - early or late - which aren't compatible, plus a tendency to leave residue on dismantling, which needs to be thoroughly cleaned or there's no compression when reassembled.

You say the timing hasn't been disturbed - are you sure you've put the plug leads back in the right order? Is the choke cable connected properly? Also, you'll have renewed the manifold gasket, is it clamped up properly?
