Engine surging

my 63 Herald convertable needed a new starter motor which I have done - the engine starts ok but the engine surges and won't idle. I have checked all the leads but wonder if I may have knocked something when removing the old starter up passed the distributor. Help thanks Simon

Vac pipe dropped off perhaps?

if she revs but wont idle take the slow run jet out and clean it
