Min Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Hello all, I am new to Triumphs having had a Morris Minor Traveller as an every day drive for nine years. Have purchased a bag of bits resembling a Triumph Herald convertible. Having great fun looking at bits which had apparently been "done" The engine number is GD26ESS which I believe is a factory replacement, but what capacity. the log book says 1147 and the car is supposed to be a 1200, but I thought the GD engines were 12/50? also discovered there seems to be no fuses...think I may have blown something up trying to get her to run, changing coils etc. carb seems to be dripping when ignition not on. Oh the joys of getting a car to the yipee lets have a drive Any help would be wonderful, and encourage me to ask many more questions which are cuing up in my head. Thanks Quote
DanM Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 GD would appear to be a 12/50 ess replacement engine from here [Sorry, link no longer available]still 1147cc though Quote
Min Posted May 8, 2016 Author Posted May 8, 2016 Thanks for that, how much difference is there for spec or carbs etc is there if any? Am looking at taking off carb and boiling it in water to clean it and see if it works. also dont seem to have a drain in the manifold, seems to have been blanked off, not sure if that is good. Quote
herald948 Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Quite possibly no difference at all, especially given that it's a "factory" replacement. Typically, as I recall, the GD engines used a different camshaft (as per early Spitfire). That's the most significant change, although there might also have been slight differences in compression ratio and such, but then heads are easily changed, so.... ??? Quote
Casper Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 GD and the Hot cam GA (GA178101E on) have the same specs. GD engines were fitted to GA cars from Comm. No. GA235,000 (late 196.C. Quote
