I have managed to source a fairly recent 2500S engine ... which enventually I will transplant into my Triumph ... here's the question ... what should I do to maintain the engine whilst in storage ? ... should I leave the coolant in ? ... any thoughts ... thanks ... Steve (Melbourne)

Erm, keep it in a nice dry place, indoors if possible.  Block off the inlet and exhaust ports and any other openings and leave the spark plugs in to stop any debris getting in.

I'd certainly be worth turning the crank on a regular basis, perhaps removing the plugs and putting a little squirt of oil down the bores before doing so to prevent seizure.

When I bought my 2000 it had been unused for 10 years and was stored with quite a strong anti freeze mixture in the cooling system.  This seems to have worked well in terms of preventing internal corrosion but it should be OK to store the engine without coolant.  Again, block off any openings to prevent snakes / spiders nesting in your waterways..........
