Andy Borris Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Can 2 men lift a 2000 engine? And put it into a hatchback? You can guess why I'm asking! ;D
npanne Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 I guess it depends on the men, but I think you'd be pushing it, they are VERY heavy! I couldn't lift one with a friend, and haven't tried since! Would recommend using van and engine crane.
dazzer Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 I think it might be easier to lift the hatchback!I've seen three guys lift a 2000 engine, but one got his hand stuckCheck there's an A & E nearby.CheersDarren
npanne Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Phew! At least it's not just me then. It's amazing how much heavier than their 4pot equivilent, which can, just, be lifted solo, they are.
Ridgetone Triumph Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Oh you bunch of girls blouse, 2 shelia's can lift these old boat anchors :(Don't let the side down you blokes, remember to use lots of loud groans and noises, and before you know it, jobs a good'n ;D
Ridgetone Triumph Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Top marks here guys.....You have just given away all our secrets :-/
Andy Borris Posted April 24, 2010 Author Posted April 24, 2010 Guess I'll have to use the MK1 to collect it, can crane it into the boot!Andy
TedTaylor Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Are you going to build a push me pull you 4 litre ..... ;D
Jason Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 I lifted a 2500 short engine on my own once, my back is now knackered and the physio terrorist was my new best friend for several weeks. Get some mechanical assistance and be careful. It you're going to crane it into the boot of a Mk1, make sure you've got a bloody good and sound boot floor!
jonnyk5614 Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 One way is to bolt a plank of wood to the head so that you have something to lift but be careful not to warp the head!
TimW Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 I used a scaffold pole and a length of steel cable to lift the 2.5 pi into the engine builders van. I'm not saying it was easy though :'( :'( :'(
Lord Sorbington Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 How much does a 2000 engine weigh? 200kg? That's the same as 3 normal blokes or 2 fatties. Shouldn't be too much of a challenge for a normal hatchback but a decent estate car would be better.Just about manhandleable by two blokes if they put a bit of effort in. An old skateboard is a handy way of moving the engine around.
GT6 M Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 M,Ludship, is that not what one keeps servants and serfs and Butlers for, the donkey work ;) ;)its ok lifting it, its keeping it lifted,, thats when the face gurning comes into play, ;D ;DMarcus
Deleted User Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 i'm not going to add too much, but used to do these on my own but with two blokes is an easy job
Nick Jones Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Picked up the bare block on its own - it was heavy. Whole engine is a 3 person lift unless one of them is Jeff Capes or Doug.....Full engine is near 200kg. Carried one home from the scrapyard in the boot of my Herald many years ago. Put in with their hiab thingy. Had to leave it in there for 3 days until I could bribe enough people to help me lift it out. Handling was a bit scary and the spring never recovered (good bye positive camber ;D)Nick
Alex Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 With the help of one other we carried a 2000 lump down my drive and into the back of his shogun......head and block complete.Twas f heavy though, but I'm no Jeff Capes and neither is the other guy.
