engine number 2500s

does anyone know what the A stands for on the end of the engine number on my 77 250s HEA,my other 2500s ive stripped down for parts and a tc both just end in HE and all three are autos

i looked at another car 74 tc and it had hebw so i guess it is borg warner it prob stands for they must change from that to an A  for auto or just nothing on my other two depends whos doing the stamping on the day

Just had a look at my original `77 2500 S auto estate and it too has an "A" on the end of its engine number if that helps ?  :-/

That is the case in regards to Stags, so probably the same rings true for the Saloons too.
