dazzer
Today I thought I'd prepare a good second hand inlet manifold, one which I'd acquired with carbs a while back for a tenner. The reason for my thinking was that the manifold on the car has the old problem of the moth eaten banjo water pipe connections. The one on the shelf is nearly perfect. So I spent a good hour opening up 2 & 5 for that extra power, I then spent a further hour carefully glass bead blasting the said item. Ready to fit looking pristine.Off comes the old manifold and on goes the new..... NOT!Being the professional I'd obviously checked they were identical... err well no not really... they look very similar. The difference is on closer inspection that there are no corresponding holes for the small roll pins in the head. The servo connection is at the rear end of the balance tube (not centre top) and the ports are actually slightly smaller by approx 2mm all round.Strombergs are dead right the manifold is not, what the hell did it come off! Do 2000 MK1s manifolds differ or could it be a GT6? Or a vitesse?Memories are flooding back of once unwittingly trying to fit a standard vanguard six into a 2000 MK2 ... But that's another story! It didn't fit either by the way.CheersDarren
Richard B
Was it a MkI manifold? Then it could be from a Series III Vanguard.Always thought the GT6 & Vitesse MkI heads were the same as a MkI Saloon. But a 1600 Vitesse or Vanguard may have had something smaller. DJB_Harvey
I think all Gt6 & vitesse Mk1 heads are basically the same , but there was 4 different inlet manifolds on Mk1 saloons depending on year.... Not sure about Vanguard manifolds but I'm sure they used twin Solex's .
dazzer
Maybe its an earlier version of the MK1 manifold? With 4 different versions existing. The manifold off my 65 2000 is slightly more opened up and has the servo centre and the lower location pin holes to ensure it lines up with the ports. Very interesting. After checking, the manifold was supposedly off a 64 MK 1, although there is no way of checking this now.CheersDarren
Richard B
Daves right, ignore what I said the 1600 Vitesse was Solex as well. :B
