Greta
Whose was this Triumph Herald on the 1961 Monte Carlo Rally? Monte Classique & Monte Heritage runs due to visit the same venue ( Ye Olde Bell - Barnby Moor ) again in 2022. Are there are intrepid Herald drivers brave enough to take on the challenge? High Lights of UK leg include alternative starts at either Blythswood Square, Glasgow, or Woodcote Park, London ( Respective RAC Headquarters ) with a reception for the northern starters at Banbury enroute south. Monte roads down through France to join other cars starting their journey to Monaco from Valence & a full day following in the tyre tracks of the Historique Rally cars on several stages. Finishing of course in the warmth of the Cote d' Azure. .... Go on - you know you want to! Edited September 6, 2021 by Greta
Batch
Nuala According to Graham Robson's 'Works Triumphs in detail' the only works Herald on the 1961 Monte was Ian 'Tiny' Lewis's Herald Coupe YRW 266. He started from Glasgow so would have called in at Barnby Moor, and of the 63 Scottish starters and 16 finishers he was the only one to reach Monte Carlo without time penalties and finished 25th overall. The cars were red and white and had the three additional lamps you can see in the photo, two below bumper and one in the centre of the grille. A year earlier Ian Lewis drove another of the works Herald Coupes (YRW268) on the Monte and finished 57th overall. Dave
Tim Bancroft
That actual Herald is still alive and lives at a certain Triumph collector who sells parts near Coventry. Sadly, the car does not have its number plate as Mr Lewis moved that onto cars, presumably as he bought and sold.

Would you care to suggest that "the certain Triumph collector who sells parts near Coventry" ... considers getting his fat or slim arse down to Monte Carlo! See below 1960 RMC ...
