BODSGT6
Im in the middle of the restoration of my Mk1 GT6 and have a few questions i hope you guys might be able to give me your opinions. Firstly , the finishers that go over the back of the rear wing to rear valance , has anybody sourced some that fit over the three edges comfortably , ive had some from james paddock and they seem too thin and was wondering if better quality ones were available. Secondly , ideally i would like to fit an exhaust that doesnt show too much of the actual silencer box anybody acheived this? Thirdly The stainless finishers on the tops of the wings seem too need stressing to follow the contours of the wings , is this normal ? Any help greatly appreciated , cheers :)
THe Maestro
I haven't worked with new finishers but I took my old rear wing finishers off my Mk3, sprayed them chrome (had been done body coloured in a cheap respray) and then refitted them. They were a tight fit to get back on and seemed too narrow. Of course I knew that they did fit because I had just taken them off! If they were new I would have doubted that they fit correctly. When removed they also did spring back to a more flat profile and didn't keep the curved contours of the wing. With a new finisher I would suspect that this would be even more pronounced. I found it best to work from one end and press down along the entire length of the wing. Perhaps put a small tack weld at the end you are working from to keep it in place or glue it down somehow.
Nick B.
First: rear wing to rear valance finishers. They are meant to be welded with a spotwelder. Not an easy fit (I have had from both rimmer and paddock - identical). Like most new parts the have to be worked on. Widen the gap before you weld.Second: look around - as I see it most standard single box exhaust seems pretty discrete3. yes - they are a pain in the arse. Good luck cheersNick
