jamie31888
Hi Guys,Well the rolling chassis of the MK3 Spit is finally complete. Now for the hard part .... the body shell. (Pics below)I was planning on getting the shell up on some trestles and preping, welding sanding it etc. Then getting it painted and lifitng it back onto the chassis. Please can anyone offer some advice as i have never attempted any bodywork before? Thanks in advance :)
Dannyb
Nice job of the chasis. If you are going to weld new sills etc them bolt it to the chassis first.
aar0sc
I wouldn't put a body over that, it's far too nice! ;DFor the body, slap some filler on it, a few rattle cans over that and then sell it to some muppet like me :P
firebobby
I would fit the body back onto the chassis and align all the other panels, then I would fit bracing bars to the door openings and take lots of photos and measurements of areas that you are going to be cutting out, before starting any major body work. You don't want to distort the body when cutting and welding ;)
jamie31888
Thanks guys,The only panels im thinking about replacing are the rear valance and the passenger front footwell.Just worried about being able to get the body back on the chassis, or should it not be a problem? James1500
As everyone has suggested, I'd stick the body back on the chassis, not a major job but will be a big help in keeping things where they should be, measure gaps and lengths before you start work and take photos for reference, also, although you're not doing any sill work it may be worth refitting the dash support (H) as a for reassurance :)
