Real 39
Hi All, I'm new to all these Triumph cars but I'm trying to finish the restoration of my Vitesse but I have a problem. I have now ordered windscreen seals from 3 different companys and non of them are right. I can't get the chrome strip to fit in the rubber. I've had 1 from Paddocks, 1 from East Kent trimmer and 1 from Rimmer. Anybody know where I get the right one from. Thanks for any info,Richard. Bob Bowling
I struggled to fit mine too, so I took the screen out again, inserted the trim strip and refitted the screen with it already in.
heraldcoupe
Sit tight for a while. There has been a problem with the windscreen seals, I reported it to the manufacturer, and have spoken to several other Triumph traders regarding the issue. Most will be aware of the problem and will by now have withdrawn them from sale.Latest word is that a re-tooled windscreen seal will be available in about four weeks,Cheers,Bill. Real 39
Thanks for the replies. Bill thanks for that information I reported it to Paddocks who said I was the first to complain but the other 2 companies said there's were fine and had no complaints. I'll send this one back and I know where I'll order the next one from.Cheers,Richard.
Stodders
Thought I was going mad. I just got a new seal for my sons 1200 and got the screen in OK but could not fit the trim. Problem I had was that the gap was way too big. Is this what you all found. I gathered that I should have also purchased the trim at the same time and that it would then have fitted? Isn't the trim meant to help tighten the seal?

Yes, and the cosmetic finish isn't as good as it could be.Quote:I gathered that I should have also purchased the trim at the same time and that it would then have fitted?Wouldn't do any good, the seals are faulty and there is no larger insert available to make up the difference.Quote: Isn't the trim meant to help tighten the seal? No, the trim is cosmetic in this application. TR7th Heaven
My Vitesse is going in for a respray in about 2 weeks (although it'll be done slowly, over 4 -6 weeks). The guy is going to take the screen out so I want him to fit a new windscreen seal and trim. After reading all these problems, where should I buy it from? Thanks,Rich :-/ P.S. It's a 1970 MKII Vitesse convertible
heraldcoupe
TR7th_Heaven wrote:After reading all these problems, where should I buy it from?Doesn't matter at the moment, no-one has properly made seals, unless you find some old stock from at least 2 years ago.As I said above, newly tooled seals will be available around the end of this month...Cheers,Bill. Ron
Triumph's manual on fitting the seal and screen says that the trim should be fitted before the screen is put in the hole!
heraldcoupe
The manual procedure was written around fitting the aluminium trim, which was used no later than 1963. This has a rigid form, which is why it should be fitted before the glass is installed in the car. All later cars will have the flexible plastic trim, this is much more easily installed with the screen already in the car.Cheers,Bill.
