mickeywheelspin
Once I've finished getting the last gremlins out of the electrical system after replacing the wiring loom, the next job on the list is adjusting the doors. At the moment the fit is particularly rubbish which may be partly due to poorly installed sills etc but haven't checked in detail and I'm not going to replace / adjust these unless I really have to. Is there any adjustment in the hinges where they connect to the door or frame? I reckon there must be some adjustment in the striker plate but that wont help me pull the door in at the bottom.Alternatively, I could replace the door hinges to get over sag or I've been recommended to jack up the door to 'bend' it back into place, but I don't really fancy giving that a go. Reckon I'll exhaust all options for simple adjustment before I start getting brutal or spending money. Thanks,Mike
neilnaz
I am pretty sure you can loosen off the hinges and use wedges or some such to alter the height/angle of the door and also the in/out door position. Sometimes the door/hinge adjustment may be on the limit. You can adjust the striker plate too so the door in tehory can be made to sit higher front or back and can sit further in front and back relative to where it is now.Bear in mind that I have not done any of this yet so I may be talking twaddle!!Neil
toomanyprojects
Hi,Neils right, if you loosen the 6 bolts that hold the hinges in place you'll find there's quite a lot of available movement. The striker plate also has some movement available up, down, in and out.To get the door right, loosen all of these bolts just enough so that the hinges/striker move but are not loose, close the door, wedge, pull, push, lift and so on as required (use some wood, cardboard or similar for wedging so you don't damage your paint). Tighten your hinges and the open the door carefully (whilst supporting it) so the striker doesn't move and tighten up you striker screws.Variations on the theme may be required but you get the idea... mickeywheelspin
Thanks for that guys, I was hoping that there was some room for movement in the door hinge. For now I just want the doors to close reasonably well so that I can get it on the road and enjoy some of the summer (if it ever arrives) - fine tuning will have to wait until she's laid up over the winter. Thanks again,Mike
