Kev W Posted April 27, 2011 Share Posted April 27, 2011 Hi All,My drivers door is not locking properly. This is going to take some explaining so please bare with me! If I try to lock it in the usual manner ie turn the key 45 degrees and then back again, it won't lock, but if I turn the key 45 degrees then pull the door handle as if to open, it has locked. Then I have to very slowly turn the key back to upright (still holding the door handle open) and as I'm rotating it pull it out slowly by degrees and on final removal turn it back to the 2 o'clock position and remove! Unlike the passenger door it feels like the lock is meeting some resistance so that it won't reach the 3 o'clock position.Is this something to do with the length of the rod inside the door being incorrect, I notice there is a small thread on it with a nut, is this for adjustment?I know these locks on an old car are easily defeated but I'd still like it to lock properly to deter the oppertunist thief!Ta :) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

GT6 M Posted April 27, 2011 Share Posted April 27, 2011 look at the bigg split pin that runs thru the connecting bit, it moves,and alters the set up. on mine it is set nearly to the top, Pin may wan opened out alittle to stop it dropping down, look here first.try moving it about when the card is off, and lock the door by turning the locking bit on end of door with your fingers. this way you can see what is going on,and what / where needs adjustingthe bit with the screw on is for adjusting the amount of pull the handle has,it could also be that the small arm that moves across is riding over the mechanism, sounds odd, but you will soon see when ye stick your snout in there. ;) ;)Marcus Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

phards Posted April 27, 2011 Share Posted April 27, 2011 Taking the outer handle off is not too bad - two nuts (or bolts) which hold a clamp plate on a 1500 spit, reached from inside with the window up! Then wriggle a split pin off a rod.Take it off and check it all works - too hard to explain in writing but ingenious when you see how it all works.My son's, mended a couple of days ago, just had a bent bit which stopped it working and simple to fix.good luckPaul.
