Fitting spitfire door-glass seals around 1/4 light

Hello all

Received new door glass seals for my 1500 spit yesterday. Problem is that my doors now have 1/4 lights on. Is there any nack, technique, tips or otherwise to help me get a good seal/fit around 1/4 lights?

I hope I dont have to cut them into two pieces??

Thanks for any help
Scott

Hi Danny
I am assuming that the inner seal needs to be cut to match glass width only??
And that the outer seal is fitted also along the 1/4 light?? Problem here is that when the seal passes the glass track of the quater light there will be a gap that cannot be sealed in the corner which is why I asked if the outer seal is meant to be cut so as to have one piece that seals the full width of the glass and another piece to seal the ouside of the 1/4 light - which would look horrible.
I am hoping to get these seals on tomorrow so if any of you guys can help me out with some advice - a pint is yours if ever in warrington/wigan area :)
Thanks
scott

Hi Scott, I recall when I restored the Vitesse and put in new outter seals I used one piece and used a craft knift to slightly trim the 'flap' back to fit the difference in depth betwen dropglass and 1/4 light frame.  I hope this makes sense.

I've GT6 1/4 lights for my spitfire but as in a full body off restoration fitting will be down the track a little (or a lot!) but expect the same mod will ensure one length fits.

Another mod I'm looking at for the spitty is to straighten the lower section of the 1/4 light frame and rear drop glass channel to remove the curve to allow full (normal) thickness glass and primarily to ensure the drop glass 'rides' up and down easily.  I haven't looked closely at it yet but expect doing so may result in the 1/4 light frame and rear drop glass channel securing brackets being slightly out of alighment with the securing points in the doors - I'll move the brackets if need be as don't want to put it all together and then find I need 20"+ biceps to wind the window up and down!
