But lately I've noticed the drivers door seems to be getting harder to shut, could anybody tell me how I could lift the door slightly, please? rotoflex Posted March 6, 2012 Share Posted March 6, 2012 That would be my guess: the hinges wear, the door starts to sag, & it collides incorrectly with the catch plate on the door jamb.If you hold the bottom of the door by the rear corner & you can wiggle it up & down a little, it indicates the hinges are worn.Over here, I found new hinges inexpensively. They are simple parts, & simple to replace outside of spending a while getting the door to just the right position for adjustment before fully tightening the bolts. If you get new hinges, don't forget to also get the paper-ish gaskets that go behind them. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Freebird Posted March 6, 2012 Share Posted March 6, 2012 These cars do sag over time - I went to fit my hardtop and found the windscreen frame to be about an inch too far back. Fizzy Posted March 6, 2012 Share Posted March 6, 2012 the roundtail windscreen frames are slightly adjustable, as they are a bolt on part. my doors rub and i have a lot of movement vertically in the doors. i will also be investing in some new hinges. Velocita Rosso Posted March 6, 2012 Share Posted March 6, 2012 To answer, just undo the top bolts of the hinge against the side of bulkhead, then while you (or someone) take the weight of the door with some upward lifting(while the door is ajar)just undo the bottom set of bolts slightly.Lift, and watch to seeif the top hinge moves slightly towards the front of car.Then nip up both stes of bolts, let go of door and see what it has achieved Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
James1500 Posted March 6, 2012 Share Posted March 6, 2012 If the hinges are worn you can change just the pins, saving a bit of cash although they can be tricky!Other options are adjusting the door hinges, but as mentioned above it's worth checking all the bolts are tight, in particular the hinge to door bolts (I've had mine work loose occasionally) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
