hi 1979 nearside door lock when i pull the outside door handle i can not open the door.if i put the key in and fiddle and pull the door handle it will pull open.this morning put the key in  stuck in and now key stuck in lock. stripped out door latch took off door handle.if i try an move any of the parts of the latch nothing seems to work the curved rod, which connects to the door handle moves up and down and moves  a lever but does not release the door latch i would think this is the problem any comments please

i have a similar problem with mine but the key does not stick in, i found if i spray wd40 over the lock mechanism it starts to work again then a few weeks later back to normal. have found if i turn teh key as far as it goes the lock always works but if i unlock then take key out the handle wont always open the door.

not sure how they adjust or if its possible so i just keep oiling mine.

i have just been to anglian triumph nothing wrong with door handle or lock.there is a split pin on the door handle with a spring clip which slides up and down the split pin.this is connected to the rod on the door lock, if this setting is wrong the door will not open/shut depending which way it is out. so i will start putting it together and adjusting the spring clip.there is also  a white lever with screw sticking from it this adjusts  how far the door handle needs to be pulled to open the door.

I suppose nearside on RHD cars is the RH door?

It's peculiar, but I've noticed the RH door on some LHD cars will have door handles that, although they keep the door securely latched, don't 'pop' the door when pulled, & the door must be leaned against to open.

Nope, LH door, the one that is nearest the pavement

THAT, I can understand, but not the manuals that say 'left' where some of them refer to the left of the car as viewed from the front, and others as viewed from the driver's seat. Having spent two hours trying to find an oil filter in a modern under an amazing collection of plastic covers and panels, only to find it wasn't where the manuals stated it was, got me slightly... annoyed.  :)

Haha, sweet! I did the same job twice to two different cars just this weekend! its a bugger - and then oh so simple.

For all those with similar problems, try this, You adjust the split pin thing (the only link between the latch and the handle) up or down so that at unlocked position the link it moves (which is half way along the handle) is fully down - its pin seated nicely into the white plastic notch, then check that in the unlocked position this link should now have slide up and out so the handle can be pulled without effecting the link - pin clear of the notch).

IN both cars i did on saturday The split pin had to be pushed as far into the grippers as possible (down as far as possible)
