Larsa
Hello out there!Due to a paint job I need to take off the mirrors situated on the doors. As they are high up on the doors they are very diffcult to get to. The nuts are on the inside!! These bullet mirrors are not original , I think, - but are the nuts metric? 8, 9, 10mm??What kind of tool should I use to get to these nuts?I`m afraid to damage the nuts in this prosess and not beeing able to get them off.Anyone for good ideas?Lars :-/
worcester19
Lars,I had these mirrors on my Spitfire. When I pulled off the door card I used a 10mm ring spanner but need to put my arm inside the door at the closest openning ( Ihope that makes sense)It was a real pain of a job and cost me a lot of knuckle skin >:(Stephen
PJM
Remove the door card and give them a good soaking in WD40 (other penetrating oils are available). Then take a 3/8 drive ratchet, (10mm on my spitty too) and a deep socket and extension. Easy peasy, good luck and make sure the socket is a good fit. Larsa
Thank you for replies!Didn`t say but its a TR6. After some good advice: Take off inside door cover. Flexible extension, thru lower opening, near lower hinge. 7/16 socket. Thru upper opening I could see the nuts.(torch lying on the bottom of the door lights upwards) In this way I could get to take off the nuts. Timeconsuming, but ok.Thanks again.LarsA
PJM
Nice blob of grease when replacing so that they will come off again next time. ;)
GT6 M
the way i found easiest, , also for the door locks, is to drill some holes in the inner door, in the area you want / think the bolts are, then you can get a socket thru to em, the holes will be covered by the card,
