Outer Door Glass Seal 608278

some outer seals are much thicker than the originals, and the clips resist fitting, the green coloured clips  are the best .

tip tie a length ofcotton to the clip so you can retrieve it from the dark places these ping off too.
easy to cut off once fitted.

tip, have a spare pair of hands a small mallet and a bit of wood

fit clip in tool and insert in door gap slide along to desired position and start to pull it upwards, whilst holding the seal down, and get the clip to engage the door lip and the seal ,
Then get the spare hands to  use the wooden drift and tap down while you pull up,

this takes a little practice but does ensure the clip it up as high as it will travel

Some suppliers sell original pattern clips in some naive hope that they'll work with aftermarket weatherstrips. The colour is no indicator, many different widths have been supplied in the green finish in recent years, some are more suitable than others.
I'm currently stocking a much wider clip which is ideal for the weatherstrips I sell, they may or may not work so well with weatherstrips from other sources.

Take a look at your clip and check it's width inside the bottom of the channel. This must be wide enough to fit the base of the weatherstrip and the thickness of the doorskin flange. The original weatherstrips have narrowed recesses to accept a thinner clip, most aftermarket strips don't.

Cheers,
Bill.

Well my weather strip clip tool came this morning and it has to be the best £7.20 I have ever spent, clips went on like a dream.
if anyone is fitting or going to fit new weather strips get your clips from James Paddock, the clip have a very wide mouth on them and make things a lot simpler and easy to fit.
Also a great idea Pete about the cotton that saved me lots of time, good shout.
Thanks everyone for your help!
