I've just repaired a door for my mk1 and sprayed it,I've now fitted it and I'm wondering if I can adjust the door back wards towards the door jam?
There's a gap of about 10mm between the front and rear door, I'd like to reduce this can it be done?

I just need to add the door rubbers now...... :(

You could make up shims in the form of plates with 5/16" holes in the right place but I used 5/16" plain washers on mine and these work well (except that, as you fit them, they sometimes drop out of position before you get the bolt through!).

It's many years since I fitted new door seals and I recall it as a slow and fiddly job but not particularly difficult.  There's no vulcanising, heating or sticking required.

I found it best to pull the seal over the door channel and engage the inner lip, then push the second lip into the channel inch by inch with the end of a blunt and stiff knife or suchlike.  It would help to first lubricate the lip of the channel and/or the seal.

Hello all,

yes, I have made up shims, not difficult to make but as David said it can be difficult to keep them in place (shims or washers are the same but washers are more fiddly), my solution is to initially use a stud top and bottom to 'hang' the door until I can get the screws in then remove the stud and fit the last screw. I usually do mine by myself but a helper to take the weight is beneficial?

Its not 100% perfect but loads better than what was there.
I'm pretty pleased,I'm sure I can improve on it at a later date but at least this isnt taped together.
The old door has no bottom on the frame or skin, the frame base is like lace!
