Locking the doors

Hi all, I have just aquired a stag. I can't seem to lock the doors properly. I am not sure if I am doing anything wrong or strange. It may just be the mechanism that needs a good clean and oil. Is their a special technique? I don't have a users manual yet and will need to get one. :)

Can onyone help?

From inside push the small lever in, from outside turn the key clockwise and then back to middle.

Opposite to open.

Oops (might be the other way round) so long since I've had the Stag on the road and nneded to lock it.  :B :B :B

ps welcome to the forum.  :)

Hi Richard B. Thanks for the locking info. I will try this again. I think its sort of what I was doing, but may not have been quite right. :)

Thanks for the welcome. Whilst I have done some work to old cars in my youngerr days (as most of us have) I have a awful lot to learn about repars in general and the car in specific.

I just hope I will be able to help out somebody else in the future.   8)

With the door open, only one the later cars.  I believe up to 1973 the mechanism was different in such a way that prevents the door from locking - which is in a way a good way to prevent you locking your keys in the car.

I don't know if you have sorted the problem out yet, but I had trouble locking my doors when I first got the car. Finally found that the connecting rod from the handle to the catch had come adrift.

The rod could be held in place either by a spring clip affair or alternatively by a specially shaped clip which locates on both parts (sorry difficult to explain in text). Anyway cutting a long story short if you still have a problem take the door card off and check to see if the rod is floating around inside.
