swoakes
Hi Guys, Just had my MK4 sprayed and I am "trying" to get the doors to fit. The doors seem to crash into the leading edge of the striker plate. There is some play in the hinges so the door edge can be lifted slightly to allow the door to close. Considering some new hinges BUT just how good are the replacements? Some pattern parts aren't good; anyone any experience of fitting new hinges? Thanks Steve
molten
HelloOnly adjustment in hinges are 'in and out' to bring door skin flush with bonnet etc andAdjustment to hinge fix point with a-post.The latch on b-post has quite a bit of play in it so maybe need a combination of all.I have same problem as you but doors sit where they should when closed. I can live with the little I have untill I get new ones which I think is the best way to cure. To me it would be good if the striker could go a little lower than it is.Let me know how you get on.Cheers

James1500
You can buy the pins for something like £4 each from canleys, cheaper than new hinges, and seems to have cured the wear in mine, if your door is slightly catching then you can move the hinges foward to allow a little more clearance, if you're struggling with extra adjustment you can enlarge the holes on the bulkhead to allow extra movement, aso worth ensuring that the angle of the striker plate itself is correct to allow the door to fully close :)
swoakes
I put a new pin in one some time ago; a bugger of a job. I think I'll go for new hinges. My doors seem too big for the opening; tight at the lock and the glass hits the windscreen frame when wound all the way up. Over time I guess the opeings will have changed shape slightly. molten
Hi SteveYes I have a little play in the hinges.I have changed both doors on mine and they too are slightly larger than the originals, but better cond.My car is at bare metal/filler stage at present and have put a lot of work in to shape the door/sills to get the best fit and appearance (gap) as possible. It could be that yours has had some sill work done in its past effecting door gap - if not braced properly.Cheers
James1500
The hardest part of changing the door pin is shifting the old one, after that I used a vice to press in the new one, but new hinges would be more straight forward, at a cost :)
