worcester19
Hi all,I have a 1976 Spitfire 1500 / Mk4. Had a productive night in the garage with only the headlights and binding brakes to fix before the MOT. :)My problem is I can't get the dipped beam to work - the lights work on main beam. I have replaced both bulb units, the dashboard switch and checked the wiring for loose connections and cannot find anything.Do you guys have any ideas what I could try next - any help would be gratefully appreciated as I am stumped.Cheers and a Happy New Year to allStephen
willcolumbine
Have you got a multimeter? If there's nothing obviously wrong, I usually get the wiring diagram out and check out everything on the circuit using the 'continuity' setting. The steering wheel stalk is where I'd start if I'd just fitted a new switch!
GT6 Mike
Check that all the fuse terminals are clean, from memory I dont think the headlights are fused but rely on the fuse being in place. Are the tail lights working ?
AndyV
Not sure if a IV/1500 loom is the same as a Mk3 but there are a bunch of bullet connectors just under the steering column that connect the column switch unit into the rest of the loom. Check the connectors are.... err.... connecting.I always had a dodgy one on mine, used to be an unpleasent surpriise when going to dip beam and all going dark! but a quick fumble under the column normally sorted it.Andy
worcester19
Thanks Guys - I will start with the multi-Meter in the garage tonight.I think there is a posibility I have been a complete doughnut though. How many positions should the light stalk have? I replaced the light stalk ages ago and this was the start of the problems I think. The one on their now has two positions - a central position and up for the main beam (and pull back for flash beam). My question I suppose is should the light stalk have three positions with the one I am missing being used to switch on the lights.I maybe clutching at straws but I want that MOT so much! :)
thescrapman
It should have 2 if it is a Mk4/1500, and 3 if it is a Mk1 to 3, or a herald or a vitesse. No sidelight only position on a Mk4, as that is done on teh dash switch.CheersColin
