Overdriving me mad

Many thanks to pony express / @thescrapman Colin and his mate Dave for lugging my dead D-type overdrive to Malvern at the weekend, unfortunately I'm sending the exchange unit back to OD Spares! He's just couriered another one down to me after I changed the drive flange on the replacement unit and discovered the output shaft threads were mullered. Sent him some photos of the damage and he immediately said "i'll send you another one today", which was proper customer service.

Now just married up the 3rd OD to my rebuilt gearbox, fingers crossed this is the last one!

Flipping nora... flanges wouldn't mate properly because the big nut holding the OD flange fouled on the inside of the prop flange / yoke whatever it's called... garrgh! 

Several hours of awkward filing later and it's on now. Bleh

We checked both units had flanges on before doing the swap, in case you had been left without one.

Should have got him to swap them over, would have found issue then, though your old one was very manky looking.

How annoying.

thanks Colin but I'd kept my small flange and sent the unit back with a GT6 / vitesse one on it, so it would have been wrong size anyway. Can't be helped, one of those things ... there are times when I wonder if I should get a less troublesome hobby though!

It is sitting happily in the car now at least

Hmm... any ideas why I can't get the speedo angle drive on this new overdrive? The cable will only go in about quarter of its short length... something isn't right.

... ok it's on. Poxy thing. The tip of the cable stub had a slight bulge so wouldn't fit. So I trimmed it, soldered up the frayed end and carefully filed it square.
