Dratno
Hi I have been looking at a '68 13/60 with a view to buying and noted two pairs of holes on each side of the 'vertical' part of the boot lid. As the boot lid has to be propped up with a length of wood, I am guessing it may be part of that mechanism that is missing? Looking at pictures of similar Heralds, there appears to be four bolts in those holes. Could anyone confirm please?
glang
They are for the attachment of the lid to an internal cross shaped bar support frame that makes it much more rigid and which, on the LH side, also fix the bracket for the prop. This bracket is prone to breaking and as its a stamped metal part difficult to replace...
RobPearce
Just to add to glang's fine reply, the bracket that breaks could be fabricated moderately easily if you're not too fussed about the exact appearance. Alternatively, with a bit of ingenuity, it would be possible to convert to gas struts by adding the necessary brackets for the ball joints. Some measurement and calculation would be needed. Either way, you will definitely need the internal frame that should be bolted to those holes.

The frame is held by the four bolts through the rear of the boot lid and the four that attach the hinges. The support bracket is held by two of the four bolts at the back.
