Hi Steve,
Could your new booklet tell me what Triumph Dealers there were in the Exeter area? My car started her life there before she started to make her way up the country.
Thanks,
S.

Stu
Motor Macs (Exeter) Ltd, Paris Street - distributor
Lock Brothers, 147 Laysmith Road - dealer

If you have a look at the heritage certificate for your car it may show the dealer that first sold it.  Unfortunately its not on my TR7 cert.

Might be of interest to readers of this thread?

I was at the Stony Stratford car show on New Year's Day where a 1970 MkII Vitesse was on display together with its original invoice from Lamb's (Romford) Ltd of Hornchurch.

I've uploaded photos of both car and invoice.  To view - Click on "Events" then "Photo Album" and enter "Stony Stratford" in the Search box.

I have recently bought a copy of the "Triumph Sales and Service Directory" for 1968/9 which for Croydon shows.

Carrs Auto Sales Ltd, Standard House, 2 South End, Croydon as a distributor
Carrs Aoto Services Ltd Tamworth Road Service Station, Tamworth Road, as a dealer
+ Beddington Lane SS, Beddington Lane, as a dealer

Thanks Steve, interesting that it has 3 addresses in there.  For a sizeable dealership that was around for many years im surpised I can find little information on it

I remember Dobsons in Staines.Back when i bought my Vitesse in 1985 i used to go to a BL dealer in Queens road,Weybridge to buy parts for it(Unipart)?
Steve

Same, used to pop in their a lot after I bought my Vitesse in 82.

However, soon found some of the specialist Triumph traders that popped up in the 80s: Sports Six Spares (TLD), Bill Livingstone's shop in Twickenham, Cox and Buckles in Manor Road, Richmond.

I have been collecting information about Triumph car dealers since getting hold a booklet that lists dealers and distributors in 1969/70.  I will publishing stuff to my blog to share the info.

I have merged 2 threads related threads here together.

If you have any pictures of window stickers, tread plates, glovebox labels etc please share them here.  As an example somebody on facebook shared this with me.

My latest blog post is about Evans and Cutler of North Street Totnes in Devon who are listed as a distributor in 1968/69.

I emailed the existing business to ask if they recognised the sticker.  Here is the reply.

Quoted Text
Certainly is , mind you we have changed a lot since those days!  My father and Mr Cutler started the business in 1946 and I have been in the Garage for 50 of those years.  We were Standard dealers and then Triumph distributors which got swallowed up by BL when we had 5 garages and the whole of the BL range.  In 1982 we ditched the franchise and took on Ford .

If you have any more information about this garage, photos of window stickers or sill plates etc please let me know.

Roy H.E.Tolley of Colne Garage, Butt Road Colchester are listed as dealer in 1968/69.  The distributor in Colchester being Eastern Automobiles (Colchester) Limited of Elmstead Road. The Colne garage site is now a Wilco Motor Spares shop see below.

These are just the sort of images I am interested in, do you have anything similar?  If you have any more information about this garage or other Triumph garages photos of window stickers or sill plates etc please let me know and share them here..

Going down the list on Flikr;

W. J. Coe Ltd of Ipswich does no longer exist.

Holway Garage of Hollywell, Flintshire Does exist, although remodelled. The other end of the garage gives the game away a bit more, but the pumps have changed little. Now a Texaco filling station. - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/.....w!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Pullan and Son, Gainsborough may exist now as a wheel alignment place, but with no period photo it's hard to say.

There are various garages in Ilkeston, but non are called 'New Oakwell Garage'.

Protheroe's of Market Harborough still exists as a car sales room, now a VW specialist - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/.....9:0x397ca03df4dba160

Byatt's of Fenton does not exist as far as I can see, but there are car dealerships along the road but all look too new.

M W Crisp does exist as a dealership, see previous post.

Mylchreests on the Westmoreland Road, Douglas may exist. The frontage is probably now a small shop, but there is a workshop to one side and a Subaru garage behind, so a possibility. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/.....w!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Arthur Prince of Loughborough exists, now VW, and almost certainly NOT the original building, or has been substantially altered. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/.....Q!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

The Austin Garage of Wadham Stringer is there, but now a Sainsbury's Local, but the building is now called 'Austin House'. - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/.....13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1

Kitchen Bros of Diss I can't find, but there is a small leisure centre that could once have been a sales room.

Newton Baker of Braunston Gate I think is long gone, no real trace.

LF Dove is there in Croydon just about, now a Volvo dealership - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/.....13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1

Whites of Grimsby may exist, but hard to say exactly where it was as an exact address isn't given in the advert.

Murray of Stratford St Andrew may exist, now a service station (Where I frequently filled up when I lived in Suffolk!) - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/.....b:0x260e1ca9dad04f52

Harry R Fisk of Stoke Holy Cross has gone, no sign of it that I can see.

Can't find Ashby's of Cobham as the address is too vague on the sticker...
