The 29th article in my series about Triumph car dealers is about Sanderson & Holmes Ltd and the Light Car Co businesses based in Derby UK.

http://vitessesteve.blogspot.co.uk/2017/01/sanderson-holmes-ltd-and-light-car-co.html

If you have any more information or recollections about any of the Standard Triumph dealers in and around Derby including either Sanderson & Holmes Ltd or the Light Car Co of Derby please get in touch. I would like to see photos of window stickers, dealer badges or sill plates etc.

There used to be a Triumph/Leyland Dealer in a small town called Heanor just north of Derby, might have been a Kenning's but I cannot remember the name of it.

What I do remember is it closed down in the late 70's and was a private Car Sales lot and garage for a while, they still had the Mk2 Vitesse Two Seater Beater large size Advert up on the Wall!

I was working in the Area at the time but never got the courage up to nip in and ask if I could have it, I think they have a similar one in the TSSC Museum.

Steve,
I assume you're aware of this site but in case not:-  http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Light_Car_Co

The bottom jpg on that page shows that Light Car Co was a Triumph specialist at the Derwent Street address in 1950 with same phone number less the first digit!

Quoted from vitessesteve
GracesGuide is a great site that I have often used as a source. I have a dealer list for April 1951 that does not include Light Car Co so think the RAC listing said to be from 1950 may not be correctly dated.

Yes, Steve, quite possibly a year or so out.
I wonder when the "4" was added at the front of Derby telephone numbers.
But also note that the RAC listing only states Triumph "specialist" not "dealer".
Further investigation warranted!

Number 34 in my series of articles about Triumph car dealers this is article about Mumfords who had garages in Plymouth, Truro, Exeter, Newton Abbot, Tiverton and Torquay. I believe Mumfords of Newton Abbot was established following the take over of A C Bulpin & Son Ltd who had been a Standard Triumph garage in 1955. I am not sure of the date of the take over.

Do you have any info about Mumfords, Newquay Road, Truro.

Standard Triumph had a factory in New Zealand where they made Triumph cars.  To get the cars out to the dealers delivery lorries were used.  I have this photo from Andrew Newman on facebook which shows Triumph 2000 MkI's being taken off site by H Boyce & Co Ltd truck.

The 38th article I have written is about Botwoods Ltd a Triumph car dealer based in the east of England.  Botwoods was a part of the Mann Egerton group.

Until 1910 the motor car manufacturers Botwood & Egerton ran alongside the carriage-making firm until Egerton left to set up his own business in Northgate (Street) next to the Great White Horse Hotel. The Botwood company became Botwoods Ltd and in the 1920s the Botwood shares were acquired by Mann, Egerton & Co of Norwich.

You can read more on my blog at: http://vitessesteve.blogspot.co.uk/2017/07/botwoods-of-bury-st-edmunds-ipswich-and.html

Plea for information
If you have any more information or recollections about this garage, photos of window stickers, dealer badges or sill plates etc please let me know.  I can be contacted via replies to this post or on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/TriumphCarDealers/
