Kartman24
I have an all syncro 3 rail box on my 1300 engine but the gearbox has now had it, i have found a new old stock box but it has the square type rear flange, my old box has the later round one. Are these flanges interchangeable between the gearboxes?
RobPearce
Yes, as long as it's the right round flange. However, check that the "NOS" box you've found is an all-synchro one. The square flange was mostly fitted on the 3-synchro box, IIRC.
glang
The serial number stamped on the top face of the cast iron main case of the box should identify it. I wonder how bad no synchro on 1st is?

Before my Spitfire's rebuild it had a rather tired 3-synchro box and it was often easier to drop it into first than second.
