carmadmike Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 Hi I am looking to buy a tr6 manifold with stromberg carbs on.I have found a set with tags on the stromberg carbs which are 2154 33371 does any body know if these are from a TR6.I am only interested in the manifold that comes with them is there a way of identifying the manifold. Thanks Mike. Gt6s Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 If the strombergs have long necks on the damper they are TR6. Quote
carmadmike Posted June 14, 2012 Author Posted June 14, 2012 Thanks Gt6s they do have long necks but I am more interested in the manifold for my Vitesse. Is there a no for a Tr6 manifold to distinguish it from a Triumph 2500 manifold.I have bought two in the past where sellers have said its Tr6 when its 2500.Thanks Mike. andytr6 Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Just sold my old manifold but still have the 1.75 strombergs - would need rebuilding - I replaced them with HS6's.And I recently fitted a 2500 long reach manifold since advice seems to be this is better than the TR6 one. And avoids fouling sterering rack if you converted to rhd. Quote
carmadmike Posted June 16, 2012 Author Posted June 16, 2012 Hi andytr6Thanks for the reply. I was after a tr6 manifold to fit my 2.5 engine in my Vitesse as the engine sits upright in the Vitesse (as with the TR6) and the 2000/2500 saloon engine are cantered over at a slight angle. I have 2 x 2000/2500 saloon manifolds. Is it possible to have one machined so the carbs sit upright and what face should be machined (head side/ carb side or both). Also can you tell me what sort of difference the 2500 long reach manifold is over the TR6 manifold. Thanks Mike. Tahiti6 Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 According to my Roger Williams book it's the later "stanpart" manifold which has better sweeping ports. I have stanpart stamped on mine if you need a photo let me know.RgdsDoug Quote
carmadmike Posted June 18, 2012 Author Posted June 18, 2012 Hi DougYes can I have a photo and any identifying nos please.Have you put the manifold on as standard or have you had any machining done to get the carbs to sit upright. If so which face was machined and how much. Thanks Mike. Quote
69vitesse Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 Wait one, I have both types down the garage, I'll go take a picture. Quote
69vitesse Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 2500 manifoldManifold off imported TR6 with twin StrombergsThe angle of the manifoilds is actually the same and not actually that much off the vertical. Quote
carmadmike Posted June 19, 2012 Author Posted June 19, 2012 Thanks for the photos. It turns out I have one 2500 manifold with blocked water pipe (what is the best way to get this unblocked). And another one with the numbers v3389 which the water pipe is OK. Both of the sweeping ports look the same length so is this one TR6 or 2000.Also would I have to get the manifold machined to have the carbs upright or would I be wasting my money. And do you get any more power over a Mk2 Vitesse manifold and if so higher or lower rev power. Thanks Mike. carmadmike Posted June 19, 2012 Author Posted June 19, 2012 Here is the one with the no V3389 on it Quote
oil_on_the_carpet Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 Don't bother machining them, it does nothing, look at the angle a Mini inlet is canted at. I have a complete 2500S manifold with twin 1.75" SU's set up, came off a 2.5L Vitesse and fitted 'as is' complete with the air box.If you decide to use SU's rather than Strombergs, short dashpot 1.75 SU's off a Dolomite Sprint will ensure plenty of clearance and the needles are about right for a 2.5.And if anyone has any ex TR6 CD-175's they don't want? I'd be happy to trade or buy them off you for a reasonable amount. :) Quote
carmadmike Posted June 21, 2012 Author Posted June 21, 2012 Hi all and thanks for all your reply's.I will leave the manifold as is and not machine (as oil on the carpet says).Fitting this manifold would there be any difference to a Vitesse Mk2 Manifold or would I just be wasting my time and money. Thanks Mike. 69vitesse Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Its a better manifold in all respects with better balanced flow to all the cylinders. Quote
greenVitesse Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Hello,I have an additional question on the manifold. My Vitesse has a 2500S engine installed with HS6 carbs, - orig. 2500S manifold not machined but mounted with adaptors on the carb. side. As the air valve - which I think is for the underpressure of the brake servo unit in the 2500S - is not needed in my car I want to close this with a blind plug.Living on the metric continent I don't have a clue which thread this part might have.Anyone knows which size I need?See the part on the picture below which I repeat from above:Thanks,Heiko Quote
Richard B Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Take some measuements and I'll try to find out or you can do a search yourself.Width A/F (across the flats) of the nut could be a BSP (British Standard Pipe), UNF or UNCWidth across the threads,How many teeth to the inch. With these three bits its usually possible to track it down.
