Hi everyone, a quick question for you.. ive set my points, set the timing, set the carbs as in the haynes manual. the engine ticks over nicely at 650rpm but if you open the throttle it splutters and spits out some fuel and pops until it revs up. once its cleared its throat it picks up ok and i can open the throttle quickly with no probs, but if i leave it a few seconds it starts all over again. ive tried making it both leaner & richer with no difference. i have no filters on the carbs yet as its not on the road, but its almost ready for its mot. Does anyone have any suggestions? cheers. Nigel. (the float chambers arent sticking either)

im wondering if its just because the car isnt getting hot enough to be fully off choke. its never ran for more than 10 mins at a time and mainly at tickover. the engine feels nice and hot, the bonnet gets hot too but the temp gauge only just moves. maybe i should worry about it once the car is on the road. thanks for your reply and it may just turn out to be your diagnosis.

the later semi downdraft solex deleted the accelerator pump , the re is also a low torque kit  rimmers are still selling them for daft money in their sales .
this changes the choke bore and some jets

make sure the idle jet is clear, as if blocked the idle  speed has to be set higher than normal and  it opens the throttle plate beyond the idle outlet port and mixture is unresponsive to changes ,.  the mixture screw only controls idle rich/weakness, if its a tad lean you could get a hic up especially with the air cleaners missing, and you blip the throttle.

make sure the correction jet and emulsion tube are a tight fit in the centre of the choke bore casting.

you should have 2 manifold drain tubes with a small jet hole in the bottom. if this is missing or blocked or too big it will uspet the idle mixture
