Hello there,

yesterday i started my vitesse 2-litre mk1 for the first time in nealey 30 years of being off the road, however, having started it up again today, fuel seems to be flooding out of the carb through the bottom adjuster nut and a small little hole where the air filters boilt onto the carb. it wasnt doing this yesterday!

The cars is running on stroms and the mixrture screw at the bottom was screwed all the way up, making the carb run on the richest setting, could this of caused the leaking? will i need to overall the carburettors?

Regards

If the adjuster was wound all the way up, it will be running really lean (in fact, I'm surprised it ran at all!). I dare say the O-rings have gone on the adjuster - if the mixture adjuster has been moved recently and the O-rings were on their last legs this can cause them to leak. The float needles could also be sticking causing fuel to leak from the float chambers out of the vent. I think a rebuild would be the wisest decision after 30 years. It's not hard to do, you just have to be methodical and clean. :)

i Had this on my vitesse as said the o rings were shot, easy to find out just wind the adjuster all the way out, I bought a repair kit and completely rebuilt them. easy job but then I have done a few over the years. you could just change the o rings, but chances are there are other problems after 30 years.

Thanks for the advice guys, it just a bit of a shock, me being all happy and proud while the engines running then looking at the carbs and seeing 5 quids worth of fuel spuing onto the ground!

I think i'll have to rebuild the carbs, i was worried as looking at the prices rimmers want for a kit (£70 something) i will try the people pete's mentioned.

I have a pair of Stromberg 150CD's and bought 2 service kits from: Southern carburettors http://www.sciperformance.co.uk/. They were very helpful and the kits have jets, diaphragms, needle valves, gaskets and a few other bits....The needles for the dampers don't come with it and I bought these additionally.

Cost me £60 altogether for two kits with needles.

thanks for the advice mazfg! Nice looking vitesse you've got there!
I'm wondering whether anyone have used the service kits from james padock (£10 per carb) or canleys (£20 per carb)?????
