SurreyMan Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Hi all would a '78 dolly door be the same as a '76 door wheret he handle sticks my dad says its a Mk2 thanks if any one can help me shed light on this :)
Howard81 Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Technically they are all the same, but the consensus is you should get doors as close to the correct year as possible as they seem to fit better :)That said, I have two '76 doors on my '78 Sprint and they fitted OK...
Darren Sharp Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Dear Howard. The doors from any model will fit but there are detail differences with the 1500's 1850's and Sprints. You can even use a 1965 1300 door, a 4 dr Tolly or a FWD 1300/1500 the passenger cell was identical with different front and rear ends. This is how they got such a refined car with the later Dolly's as all the research had been tried and tested. Watch the holes for the door trims as these are missing on the pre 1972 models/later 1300's and there may also be some detail changes with the door cappings and door cards. Basically they are the same shape but you may have to drill new holes for trims. Locks are usually the same. Some panel specialists do have dolly doors for sale I found a great set at Beaulieu this year.Regards Darren
SurreyMan Posted November 24, 2009 Author Posted November 24, 2009 thanks guys i got the year worng on the car its 1973 and thanks Darren for that info I might relook at the 60s 1300 doors and see if they can be made to suite
yogi Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 1300 doors will physically fit in the hole but the locks, winders and door cappings are all different and in different places. 1300s don't have the black plastic push button door locks, they have nice chrome ones under the opening handle. They look nicer but are rather inconvenient when trying to unlock the back door from outside. The striker plates are different too. The door shut on a well set up 1300 (and mk1 2000) is utterly sublime. you can push it shut with one finger and it justs clicks. I often shut my door several times just because it feels so good! Is that a bit odd? I did once scrap a 1300 that had a Dolly door fitted. It was a very long time ago and I can't remember exactly what had been done but welding was involved.
SurreyMan Posted November 26, 2009 Author Posted November 26, 2009 thanks i'll sell them off (the 1300 doors)seems a shame as there in bloody good con and the ones on the car anit but thats life

I often shut my door several times just because it feels so good! Is that a bit odd? I spent hours lining my strikers up on my Mk1 PI so the did just that... gentle push and click.. click. Then my mates get in who are used to modern crap and slam the doors so hard my teeth rattle. They don't even get the hint when I tell them about how Triumph patented the door lock design in the 60's and how they shut with barely any effort.:-)Colinp.s. Don't worry it's not odd, honest!
yogi Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 If I take anyone out in mine I show them how the doors shut first and then usually do it for them anyway. It looks like I'm being a proper gent opening the door for them and closing it behind them but the truth is I'm just really touchy about my doors and physically flinch when other people slam them! The boot just drops shut with a lovely twang noise too. one of the reasons it takes me so long to do anything is because I just end up playing with all the nice tactile bits instead of working on it. Thats my excuse anyway.

partsaver Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 HiI Think im the friend that Yogi is talking about! If they are indeed 1300FWD doors i could be intrested, in fact i could be intrstrested even if they are dolomite doors, could you post a pic of one of the door, the handle/ lock area would tell for sure what they are off.Back to the original question there is no such thing as aMK1/ MK2 dolomite, there ws a face lift in 76 but the only differences were trim. all dolomite and toledo (except two door tollys) are the same although some say that early/late swaps are difficult to fit but ive never had a problem after a bit of fiddling.
