Mj17 Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Could someone tell me how the front door check straps are meant to fit?My car has had a respray at some point in the past and they obviously weren't refitted properly - I assume the strap is meant to go 'behind' the roller built in to the hinge (forward of it when the door is open) but mine are the other side (rearwards of the roller when the door is open).Trouble is I can't see how to get the hinge in the right place...
MarkDeTriomphe Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Hi - unless I have mis-understood your description, it sounds as though your check strap is fitted correctly. Here's mine which I am sure is OK :Mark
Mj17 Posted November 24, 2008 Author Posted November 24, 2008 Humm, that looks more or less the same as mine but, on my car at least all they do is provide a little resistance when the door is opened to 45 degrees but if you go past that it just swings open until the leading edge hits the inner wing (and there is no contact between door and check strap.
Lord Sorbington Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 The check straps do little to stop the door from hitting the wing, they're more about stopping the door swinging shut onto your ankles. There is a metal lug on each bottom door hinge which is supposed to limit the extent to which the doors can open. They are a bit rubbish and often bend or break off.
