Rumpith Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Somebody I know locally (TSSC member, not CT) has a GT6 Mk3 with a badly scratched driver's door glass. She is trying to locate a replacement. Does anyone have one available for sale?If so, please PM me and I'll pass on your details.Jon
Nick B. Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 ATM impossible to find. I would go this route and buy doors. Could sell on doors without glasshttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PAIR-OF-DOORS-TRIUMPH-GT6-MK111-SPITFIRE-INC-GLASS-ETC_W0QQitemZ280198779243QQihZ018QQcategoryZ27383QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemCheersNick
Jason Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 How badly scratched? I had good results with a glass polishing kit, Frosts I think, not perfect but a big improvement
RYGhost Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 GT6 Mk 3 same as Spit MK IV/1500 doors???If so, I've got spare glass for both sides.Chris
Rumpith Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 I was wondering about that, Chris. Can anybody confirm or deny?Jon
JET Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 GT6 doors have quarter lights as in the e-bay photo..Spitfire Mk 1V and 1500 don't, at least mine doesn't.So how can they have the same glass?
Clive Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 No, gt6 has 1/4 lights andthe glass is curved, so handed.
Nick B. Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 They do NOT have the same glass. As JET points out the GT6 has quarterligths, hence a much "shorter" window. The mk4 and 1500 has the same profile on the rear edge (square) whereas mk1-3 has a round edge. So you can retro fit GT6 doors to a MK4 and 1500 with no hassle. You cannot do that with mk1-3. There you have to get the special windows, which are ATM unobtainable.CheersNick
Rumpith Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 Yes, of course, I'd forgotten about the quarterlights. I'll advise her to ask around the breakers and trade. If anyone hears of glass available (new or used) please PM me, as it really is the only thing spoiling a very nice car (French blue BTW - very nice!)
rotoflex Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 ebay US, item # 230220956593$15, comes out to what, 8 pounds? With shipping couldn't hurt much, & it's not as fragile as plate glass.I'd email & ask about scratches, general condition, etc.I've seen this guy's listings before & his descriptions aren't very detailed, probably because he seems to be dismantling cars & pitching them up on ebay at a furious clip.
G.in_Lux Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Is it not possible to get them made?I'm sure carglass or whatever could make 'em up if given the dimensions...
Rumpith Posted March 1, 2008 Author Posted March 1, 2008 Following an slight accident with the door glass I'd managed to locate (I won't mention names and risk embarrassing you, Doug. Oops!), I'm now on the lookout again for this item, on behalf of a friend.Driver's door glass, GT6 Mk 3.If anyone has one, or knows of the whereabouts of one, please PM me.Jon
