Fizzy Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 is there enough glass on the squaretail side windows for them to be trimmed down to replicate roundtail windows, with the round corners ?
Fizzy Posted October 3, 2011 Author Posted October 3, 2011 haha well thats the end of that then. out of interest, is there enough glass there ?
sparky_spit Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 I can tell from your reply, Jason, that you are thinking of trying anyway? ;) I must admit, I would, just for the hell of it. How hard can it be?Assuming there is enough glass, running an angle grinder with a stone cutting disc very lightly around a chalked on curve might just do it? Or shatter it into a thousand pieces. One or the other.... Better wear some goggles.
Fizzy Posted October 3, 2011 Author Posted October 3, 2011 well my side windows are really bad, lots of vertical scratches and some welding spatter, and god knows what else. this is an option that may be possible at some point in the future. i think even if i did try it, i would probably take it to a pro to give it the best chance of succeeding.

GT6 M Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Fizz, you can try it with a ..belt sander.. get a belt that has got a contiuous belt, and NOT one with a ..ridged belt.. try about 80 gritDOOOOO NOTTTTT , try a cutting disc, it will shatter it. Toughned glass just Goes.Maybe a flap disc will suffice as well.you really need a wet sanding set up, Look at finding a mirror making firm,as they ave got the stuff for it.
Deleted User Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 why not buy a new one. About thirty quid from moss. My new windscreen and dropglasses cost me about £120 from moss with a bit of their new year discount. Not worth the messing,
BritsnSpits Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Anybody think about using a glass cutter? Scribe and snap won't work on auto glass?

molten Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 The person to crack this nutshell might do well on Dragon's Den :)
junkuser Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 The internal stresses in toughened glass are just looking for relief.Tried drilling a small hole in a toughened glass quarter light once to see if possible. Had had a laminated replacement glass made and on hand.Used a piece of copper pipe in a hand operated drill and valve grinding paste so no heat generated.Almost through and those stresses relieved themselves.(No problems drilling laminated this way as the glass is soft)Always interesting to try these things though when there is nothing to lose.Would be interesting to try Marcus's approach.
