WIMPUS Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 My door adjustment problem .. On my spitfire, my door, one of the hinge bolts is changed to a M10 bolt ..And because of this i can't adjust it that good .. Can you put in a new plate behind it ? can you access it good ?If i can get the plate out i can maybe weld a nut on it or make a new plate .. :)Also it's the top plate :-/it's always hitting the lock plate and when i'm sitting in it i sometime can't open the door very good because the door is against the lock plate :B Quote
GT6 M Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Yip ye can Wim, pull the carpet back, and you will see the braket , held in with some tabs.bit awkward to get at, but it can be done.weld a nut on is best, as any bigger plated , will no fit back into holder.Note, its been tapped bigger, to get a thread again, BUTTTT, the bolt is bigger, so there less thread to use noo.Best practice some Yoga positions fust, as its a ligg on yer back / side, and also a twist upwards to peek into where ye want to be.also, not a good position to be in, whenst a cramp sets in.. (whistle) :'(M Quote

(whistle) :'(MThanks for the info ;DFirst going to look where the plate is .. then loosen up the hinge (with the door shut) and then take the plate out .. And then going to a friend to weld a nut on it :) Then re-install it and hope i can adjust my door a bit better (and that it doesn't hit the bonnet :-/ ) Will be something to look tomorrow and then maybe monday to do it :) Quote
GT6 M Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 First going to look where the plate is .. then loosen up the hinge (with the door shut)EEeekkk, and just hoo ye going to get at it.1, seat out ligging full length.2, from passenger side, even moer EEeeeks :o :o :o3, hire some Dwarfs, or Wee Kids, and tell em what to doo.4, try and doo it thru window, whenst doon, = strained back, neck stuck int steering wheel, eye powked oot with a switch or some thing.5, Failure to comply with above, will deffo lead to a Cramp attack, very painfull too :-/ :-/best way, slacken bolts off, and prop bottom of door up on a stand,or some thing that will hold it in place, but wide open OR, tek door off altogether, , and sort both oot at same time.gives ye moer room to work, and it will be quicker.been there, found oot. After first cramp attack though.good luckM Quote

So... :)And get the door of isn't that easy on mine because of the wires for the central locking .. Quote
WIMPUS Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 Well looked at the plate on the inside .. i can get to it , but its going to be a job to get it out ! I also see that i can normally adjust the door 2 / 3 mm more to the front, but because of that m10 bolt i can't ..i'm also thinking of something else .. Removing the hinge and then make the hole where the M10 bolt goes true to the plate .. make that a bit bigger with a dremel :-/ ( i know it's also something .. :B ) that 2 / 3mm is what i need for now .. My door doesn't really fit great, sticks out the bottom very much and if you look at the space where the glass sits in, it's much wider then normal and also not really straight :-/So will look in the future for another door and test fit that one first and if it fits better let it also spray in the Blue/grey color :) Quote
WIMPUS Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 but i'm really happy that everything is so 'easy' to remove .. And second photo is of a position that is standard on a spitfire... feet up in the air :P Quote
WIMPUS Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 Also noticed that my top hinge have got some play .. what to do about it ? :-/ Quote
GT6 M Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Wim, just need to bend tabs back on yan side, and it will come oot.prise away with long screwdriver, to push it side ways,or what ever.can fit new pins, but whole hinge needs to be off really for ease of work.while oot, drill a wee hole , at a slight angle doon wards, where top of hinge pin is.then ye can lube the pin, prob worn thru lack of lube over time.doo it to em all, can doo this on car too.1/16th hole is all thats needed.the door can be adjusted quite a bit, try and get it best ye can WITH the door seal off.then re fit seal. And if its a wee bit tight in some spots, then bend the flange back with an adjustable, where it touches too much,Then if the gap around the top windows are too big, {cos its gon in at bottom, so top has to come oot wards,} then adjust the window innards frae inside the door.the whole lot can go back n forads, and in / oot, to get best fit.maybe thats all it is, and nee need to get another door, follow,!!!Yip Standard position for some parts, lucky ye got no roof on.will let smell of stinkee socks / feet oot faster ;) ;)good luck , M Quote

Going to leaf it for now until the hinge pin's are here, adjusted the doors 6 times today.. that's enough ! (getting a bit angry on that door ! ) ;) Quote
