Door hinge fixing plate

The threads on the door-hinge fixing plate on the A-post are pretty worn and the door does not align well. The nuts do not tight, and I need to either reclaim the threads or change the plate itself – see pic of the plate. My question is whether these plates are accessible when the interior trim is removed, i.e. the front footwell scuttle panel, just above the sill in front of the door aperture?

Nope, they've got the be cut out and it's not a tidy job. I planned to remove one from my old bulkhead for someone, took one out and decided it wasn't worth the effort to do the rest!

That being said, if you're good with an angle grinder and welder you'd be able to cut out a rectangle around the plate face and take it out that way. Then you'd also be able to replace it with new metal to get rid of your elongated holes. The plates themselves are simple rectangles with three threaded holes.

Ok – thanks for the quick reply and clear answer – even though it was not the answer I wanted  :P
I will try to reclaim the threads by 8mm or 3/8” ….. it may work…. If not I’ve got a problem  :-/

If there is still some purchase in the threads, you can cut the head off a bolt and Araldite it in. It's actually much easier to mount the door on the new stud than using the original bolt. Mine have lasted 20 years so far!
