blueH Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Currently re skinning my Herald Doors, I have noticed the channel that holds the side of the window is pretty shot on both O/S & N/S, I have checked Rimmers Web Site & they sell the insert (black flock material) only, was just wondering if by any remote chance any forum readers might have a decent condition pair available for sale, for info the Rimmers Cat Nos are 704563 & 704564 (page 48) re skinning now stopped until problem sorted but plenty of other jobs on the car to keep me busy. Thanks for LookingNorm
Steve AKA vitessesteve Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 If you fit 2nd hand you need to ensure it is still the correct shape. From memory the inserts can get bent out of straight.
Simoneg Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 The steel reinforced black felt window channel is pretty standard stuff but spare parts suppliers don't seem to mention that you may need to make new brackets to fix this to the door frame. I found a local metal working shop to do this using the old rusty ones as patterns, as the angles are awkward. Then a simple job to pop-rivet them onto the back of the channel, ensuring rivet heads are well bedded into the inside of the channel so they don't obstruct movement of the glass. If you do get new brackets made I suggest you get a few spares done at the same time - probably a ready market amongst members, or on Ebay! Simon
Clive Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 I reused the old brackets, and mig/spot welded them on. Channels immersed in water to prevent damage. I seem to remember iy is almost impossible to pop rvit them on, as the gun needs to be inside the channel? Normal rivits may work though.
Simoneg Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Well, I did it somehow - and on two cars. Probably used some small washers to extend the "nose" of the rivet gun so it fitted into the channel, but I can't remember now. Underwater welding eh? Might come in handy on one of those Amphicars ...
