tiggrr1 Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 No association to me just thought the "fast Spitfire Boys" ;) might like this 8)http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1977-TRIUMPH-SPITFIRE-1500-RED_W0QQitemZ250285766797QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item250285766797&_trkparms=72%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
Richard B Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Definitely wants to be lowered; weren't those 1700 engines rather shall we say 'problematical'?
Deleted User Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 I would stick to the 1300 as it will rev higher! Although I do like the sound of a supercharger :)
Clive Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 The guy turned up to our local TSSC meeting a couple of months ago. It is very red everywhere, and had to be towed home after a "mechanical incident" when giving a ride to another member! Would need careful viewing.
Deleted User Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 I would love to bolt a Supercharger on! :) But I know the condition and spec of my engine!Where this is a different kettle of fish! 1700cc engines do not have a reputation to be reliable! and I would not know the condition of it prior to the charger being fitted! Now if that charger was for sale on it's own! ;) I may want to talk to him :X
irish44j Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 there is a place here in the US (north carolina) that sells a SC kit for the Spit, using a modern M45 Eaton blower - light boost, claims to be fine on stock internals if engine is in good shape. He lists them on ebay occasionally, and I think one is on there right now (US ebay)...Also I believe Steve Downing in Ohio did an M45 setup and then a larger M62 setup successfully on a GT6...
sbarc Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 HERETICS!!! You're all a bunch of heretics!!! BTW...wasn't there someone on here that connected a S/C to his GT6 and blew up the bottom end of the motor?
heraldcoupe Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 That's a very small supercharger for that capacity engine, I would have thought a C142 was more suitably sized than the C75.The 1700 engines weren't marketed for long, there was a good reason for that.....Cheers,Bill.
Jason Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Ahh the "Super Sport" 1700 engine, so called because you had to be a super sport to not loose your mind with the warranty situation :-)
CharlieB Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 As a matter of interest how do you create a 1700, is the crank offset ground to take small rods? I don't suppose you could bore it that much?
esxefi Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 if it is offset ground with shorter rods then that would make the stroke to rod length ratio even worse resulting in even quicker borewear and a weaker bottom end.perhaps why the reputation.pure engineering insanity.still probably ok with a s/c for low down torque but limit the revs to say 3.5k(think)

OUCHIf I was spending that kind of money I could go V8 :)Now there is an idea ;D
tiggrr1 Posted August 29, 2008 Author Posted August 29, 2008 Rob are you turning into Jeremy Clarkson.......................POOOOOWWWWEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRR ;D ;) :P
sbarc Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Come on........why waste your time on a V8 when I'm sure you could fit the Vanquish V-12 in there. You know you want to!!!
Deleted User Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 No I know a V8 will fit no cutting!A V 12 would be nice but I would have to upgrade the brakes! ;D
