Engine Valances, yes or no???

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have the engine valances fitted?

Are they worthwhile for a car not being used often ?

Yes I do, and yes, if only to keep the road dirt from getting everywhere. Mine are blingy of course - a nice fringe benefit.  ;)

I think yes, although I don't have any on right now.
The originals were cardboard, & had a tendency to deteriorate.
Many folks create new ones from aluminum sheet.
I believe I will create some from sheets of that thick black sort of semi-flexible plastic, whatever it's called.
The stuff they use to line wheel wells in modern cars.

no.....never had them fitted in 25years of triumph ownership,.....

mind you i've had some sh*te looking engine bays :B

Cut my set from Hardboard or Masonite.

Not sure about the function of the rear engine valances, it would seem that they are only there to keep as suggested the muck out. The front ones to the radiatior however are very much needed, they help in channeling cold air to the radiator but also to prevent the "backdraft" of hot air from around the engine to be sucked in through the radiator again. This would be especially true at low speeds.

I think yes, i have the original carboardy ones and they are in brilliant nick. i think they put the back one in to mean that you had to remove another thing before getting complete access to that side of the engine.

Rad valance yes,it funnels cool air to rad
Side valances ,no,as it helps keep the engine/carbs/manifolds cool

I think im going to go with just the radiator valances, id like to be able to see the engine etc. :)

Oh yea, forgotto, Il Capo is correcto, side ones are betterer with louvres in.

i have the side ones fitted in the winter and then remove them in the summer to help let the heat escape, makes a small difference but every little helps :)

Wotcher Rich - many thanks. I asked a bloke on Ebay to do them for me, after a bloke here on the forum took my fibre ones as a template and was going to make some but never got round to it. (Maybe he will yet),
Ebay bloke was really good about it, but I don't think he's made any since(?). He's Adunntony@aol.com - really nice fella.  
On here occasionally too (I think). No relation, no money in it for me and so on. More's the pity!  ;)

Hi Guys

read with interest all your comments regarding the valance boards
Should anyone traveling a distance to stoneleigh and want any parts I'm more than happy to deliver foc I live spitting distance from the show ground and generally make a delivery to one or two of our european travellers as it saves them quite a few euros.
