Hi all, just had all my chrome work re-chromed and wondering what is the best way to protect for the future, I realise that if it gets wet then dry it off before garaging but any advice on protective sprays etc, thanks all, Paul

Good car polish works very well, same as you use on your bodywork, and Waxoyl the entire rear or undersides of bumpers and overriders. Autosol and the like are great for chrome that's a bit pitted or older, but I'm wary of using anything that harsh on new chrome - that's just me, and probably as always being over-protective!

Who did the work?

Agree about waxoyl (or even hammerite) on the undersides. I would definitely avoid Autosol, or any similar metal polish. They're abrasive so repeated use on plated surfaces will eventually get you back to the substrate. I know because I killed the chrome on a bike petrol tank with misguided kindness!

I use wax on my bumpers, or wipe over with WD40 in winter. But this will clog up your chamois leather when you dry it off if caught in the rain!

Not wishing to be negative but I have seen some re-chromed stuff turn to rust alarmingly fast, hopefully yours will fare better. Like paintwork, I think 99% of the work is in the preparation.

Hi all, thanks for replies, been busy marshalling IOM TT, anyway Paudman, work done by a Birmingham company old family business and I have to say very pleased, I had some minor dents in the front bumper the owners son took them on and I cant tell now where they were, Castle Chrome, Dudley, West Midlands, I am in no way involved with this company but would certainly recommend them, realistic prices too.
