GT6Craig Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I read a "how to" online on how to polish chrome simply using coca cola and tin foil. I thought i'd give it a go. The results where so amazing i thought id put my own "how to" up here. I hope this is as new to you guys as it was to me....and your equally impressed!1) Take 1 ugly chrome wheel hub2) Put your chrome item in a bucket and pour ample amounts of cheap coke over it.3) Rub it with plenty of tin foil and watch as the electrolyte effect returns it to new!4) Wear some shades as the shiny chrome burns out your retinas! And trust me guys, these hub caps where in terrible condition when i got them!
ferny Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 It's the minute amount phosphoric acid in the coke doing the work. The tin foil molds to the shape of the item you're cleaning. Better off using a proper chrome clearner and drinking the coke with added Jack Daniels.
GT6Craig Posted July 3, 2009 Author Posted July 3, 2009 Quote:Better off using a proper chrome clearner and drinking the coke with added Jack Daniels.Well i did both and id defo use the coke method, then use a chrome cleaner, then enjoy a JD & coke as a reward - how does that sound? ha haYeh your right, but this does work well when the items are really mucky and chrome cleaner wont shift the rust and crud.
GT6 M Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 thats really good, , new coke cleaned things up, but never with tin foil, did ye put the tin foil into a ..ball.. or just used it ..flat..!!how long to soak, Does this give as good a finnish as Mr Chatterton would get with his ..polish.. !!!regards Marcus
Fizzy Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 but what does a tube of autosol cost ? 6-7 quid ? no doubt there are chrome cleaners more expensive aswell. what does cheap cola cost? about 26p for 2 litres.and i pity anybody who uses cheap cola to mix their drinks ;)

GT6Craig Posted July 3, 2009 Author Posted July 3, 2009 Quote:did ye put the tin foil into a ..ball.. or just used it ..flat..!!I kind of just scrunched it up, there is no set rules i dont think, just scrunch it up and rub away..real easy!Quote:or use the cola to clean the wheel trims and then drink the chrome cleaner....If your jaws from james bond maybe!
IVANHOE Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I have used tin foil before, after reading about it on the pajero owner club.Worked well on my rust spotted hub caps. :)
Velocita Rosso Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 So, if Coke does that to your chrome whats it doing to your stomach lining ? or does the Jack Daniels counter act the Coke? You could say your stomach takes a shine to Jack Daniels ;D
Fizzy Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 my best mate is a biochemistry teacher - you dont want to know what coke does to you insides. ??)
Paudman Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 But all the fillings in your teeth are lovely and shiny. When your teeth fall out you can keep them in your pocket and admire them every so often.I prefer Smirnoff to whisky anyway...

OR rather a heated debate. Just google for "fold or wad", but be sure that your search engine is set to include US sites.Mind you, if they are talking tin foil, then the Americans are tougher than I thought!John
