blueH Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Can anyone advise the thread size for the captive nuts inside rear Over Riders for my Herald 1200, one of my over riders is a bit damaged & a friend has kindly given me a better condition item, it's just my old one has been modified with a piece of threaded rod welded into the captive nut so that it held in wih a nut inside boot area.ThanksNorm
roger.england Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 They are both 3/8" UNF - the upper one is 2" long and the lower one is 5 1/2" long.Roger
Jason Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Try getting some 3/8 threaded bar and cut lenths to use so that you have a nut inside the boot rather than a bolt - makes it easy to remove and avoid having them seize over time.
valencia1 Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 and i believe the overiders are "handed", so check you got the right one before you start

Least fun aspect of fitting up cars built by other people, when the valances have been fitted and painted without checking the position of the overriders. I once had a contract to fit up a Herald for a "professional" restorer where this had been done. Guess what - I've got another one to do now...........Cheers,Bill.

Straight Six Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 What are the differences between the left & right overiders? I suspect mine are wrong as I've never been happy with the fit.
heraldcoupe Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 The cut-out to clear the valance is deeper towards the centre of the car. Reproduction rear overriders sometimes get bad press as being a poor fit, though the problems are in fact more often caused by poor valance alignment. Poor chrome finish however is another matter.....Cheers,Bill.
